2011 Divemaster Course Program

Becoming a Divemaster is the first step along the path of being a dive professional. As a Divemaster, you can lead dives, assist with training courses or work on a dive boat. Our "On Board" Divemaster training course will get you ahead in your goal of being a dive professional, and provide you with actual experience in the dive industry.

The program consists of four days of diving on our dive boat along side our crew as well as some additional pool sessions. You DO NOT have to do all four days in a row, you can do them on your schedule within the dive season. Each of the four days you are on the boat, you will be asked to complete portions of the PADI Divemaster Certificationpractical application workshops, assessments and other assignments.

The program does not include classroom Divemaster Knowledge Development (book work), you must do the book work on your own through the PADI online eLearning system which you can do from home at your convenience online before starting the program.

You will take the Divemaster Final Exam with us in Ocean City on one of the four days you are there for your internship.

    New Twilight Lobster Hunt Course!

Hunting for lobsters is one of the most fun dive experiences you can have! They hide in little crevices, so you peek, peer, and generally sneak around to try to find one. In this course, we'll show you the basics of how to hunt for lobsters, where to look, and give you the gear to go down and look on your own.

Why Twilight? Lobsters are nocturnal - and while you will find them out in the day, they are most active at night. For this course we'll meet at 5pm so we still have some daylight to show you how to use the equipment and give some how-tos, and your first dive may be when its still kind of dusky, just as the lobsters are starting to come out (we'll do two dives).

A twilight lobster hunt - what could be more fun than that? And who knows, you may even end up with dinner!

    Weekend Report – Ocean City, MD – May 21 & 22 2010

    Weekend Report – Ocean City, MD – May 21 & 22 2010

Friday we headed out with 6 divers + crew for two dives on the African Queen (Zone 3) in 70FSW, seas were 2ft @ 9 seconds.. in other words.. flat as a lake! Vis was 20+ on the bottom. Temp was 63 on the surface and 57 on the sand. 6 Bugs, several tog and a bushel of large mussels later we headed for a third dive at the Kona-Hi'lola (Zone 1). Temps were about the same but vis dropped to about 10-15. Got a few more tog and headed in..

For the Saturday AM trip with 6 divers + crew, we headed out for two dives on the Kathleen Riggins (Zone 2). Vis was around 15 ft, temps about the same as Friday. Seas came up a little but were still pretty pleasant. No spearfishing on this trip.

The Saturday PM trip also with 6 divers + crew was back at the Kona-Hi'lola (Zone 1) for two. Just a fun quick early evening charter with some Jersey boys. Seas were back around 2-3ft @ 9 seconds. Vis was around 10ft. No spearfishing on this trip either.

FYI: New Zone 4 Trips - Ocean City, MD

FYI: We are adding a couple more wrecks to our list of divesites that we visit including the Saetia and the Arthur T. Hall. We are grouping these wrecks in an area were calling Zone 4 about 20 Miles Offshore.

    Saetia
    Zone 4 / Depth: 80-110 ft
A coal-fired steam freighter with a very short life. A World War I casualty mined by the U-117 on November 9, 1918. Built: 1918. Length: 322 ft. This is the outer most of the so called "Twin Wrecks". (Description from Gary Gentile's Book)

    Arthur T. Hall
    Zone 4 / Depth: 80-110 ft
Perfectly intact, the 165 ft buoy tender ship sits upright. The top of the wreck reaches 70 feet, with the main deck resting at 90 feet. The wreck is perfectly intact. Divers can swim into the forecastle, and pass completely through the compartments of the midship superstructure on two different levels. This wreck looks like a ship! Even the railings are still in place, don't miss this one! (Description from Gary Gentile's Book)

Dive Report - Ocean City - April 3

Good day diving off Ocean City, MD but thick fog the whole way out. Seas were 3 ft / 8 seconds. 46 on the surface / 42 on the bottom. Average viz 20-25 ft. There were a bunch of Harbor seals in the bay near the inlet.. first time I've ever seen seals in OC. Overall not a bad day, hoping for better vis tomorrow (and less fog)
