Chesapeake Bay SCUBA Diving

Chesapeake Bay Oyster Diving has become a popular hobby for us Mid-Atlantic SCUBA divers (aka bottom feeders). We not only like to explore the local waters but we love to enjoy a fresh sea food dinner along the way.

Info can also be found at http://www.baydiveboat.com

The Malama Kai aka OC Dive Boat http://www.ocdiveboat.com will be running dive charters in the Chesapeake Bay from October - December.

Oyster diving beds in the Chesapeake Bay are usually about 10 to 15 feet deep underwater, with minimal current. These SCUBA diving conditions make for an easy fun dive for all divers. The visibility in the fall can be 8-15 ft and all season long the worst is still an arms length which is all you need to find the oysters.

In addition to Oyster Diving, we will also be diving some rarely visited shipwrecks and the notorious “bridge rubble” reef
systems, the bridge rubble reefs and concrete piles were sunk creating large sanctuaries for all sorts of marine life.

Don’t forget to take a sturdy bag with you underwater. Bring one that's specially designed to hold oysters or other mollusks.

Ocean City Spearfishing

In addition to exploring the many natural and artificial wrecks off the Maryland coast, Ocean City, MD is a great place for spearfishing and lobster hunting.

Our local wrecks provide a permanent home to many marine animals as well as becoming an in-season "stop-over" for migrating gamefish. The most popular targets for wreck spearfishing include flounder, seabass and tautog. We have a long list of spearfishing hot spots that we can visit when you come diving with us.

Go spearfishing in Ocean City!

Ocean City Wreck Diving

The Ocean City Reef Foundation has developed hundread of artificial reef sites around the Maryland coast line that has created not only a safe haven for marine life but many accesable recreational dive hot spots.

Wreck diving is a type of recreational and technical diving where shipwrecks are explored underwater. Although many wreck dive sites are at shipwrecks, there is an increasing trend to sink retired ships to create artificial reef sites.

A shipwreck is attractive to divers for several reasons;

-it is an artificial reef, which creates a safe haven habitat for many types of marine life

-it often is a large structure with many interesting parts and machinery

-it often has an exciting or tragic history

-it presents new skill challenges for scuba divers

-it may be an important archaeological resource

We recommend that all divers carry a powerful dive light, a safety sausage, a cutting tool and a wreck wheel/line. Along with this, you should get the proper training from a qualified and experienced instructor
